This tip comes from our tech team on how customers can best care for their doors. Pro Tech Tip: Skip the grease!
Many customers will attempt to quiet noisy operation on their doors by using white lithium grease on parts like bottom guides, top rollers, the idler pulley and belt. While this application will stop the squealing briefly, it will also attract a lot of dirt or debris.
Ultimately this causes more damage to the already worn and squealing parts. It also adds extra labor time to clean all the grease and dirt off later during the inevitable repair. Don’t blow your money on the labor…spend it on the needed part!
It is important to realize doors are intended to operating smoothly, quietly, and without lubricants. If you hear a noise it is 99% likely you need a service call.
Try to resist the urge to grease up your door….we know it is so tempting. Also, don’t use butter flavored PAM. Yep. That has really happened! So just say no to greases, oils, lubricants, and butter flavored non-stick cooking spray.
